Sailors to Gather in Honor of 6 Lost
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Sailors will gather at Constitution Dock in Hobart, Tasmania, for a “Yachties’ Farewell” on New Year’s Day to the six men who died at sea during the storm-whipped 54th Sydney-to-Hobart race this week. By then, most of the more than 40 yachts that continued racing through 90-mph winds and 35-foot swells will have completed the course. Hundreds of sailors suffered injuries, ranging from lost fingers to broken bones, in the storm.
