Chapman’s Strange Gets 17 in Victory Over Santa Cruz
Nathan Strange scored 17 points to help Chapman defeat winless UC Santa Cruz, 79-59, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Chapman.
Strange played a team-high 25 minutes for the Panthers, who had 11 players score. Chapman held Santa Cruz to 21% field-goal shooting in the first half and 26% for the game.
Damon Williams scored 12 points for Chapman (7-2), which led at halftime, 36-18, after shooting 50% from the field. Matt Poutsma added 10 points and Mike Gartner had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers.
Michael Halligan had 19 points and seven rebounds for Santa Cruz (0-8).
In a nonconference women’s basketball game:
Santa Clara 78, CS Fullerton 51--Annie Garrison had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Santa Clara (7-0), which shot 54% from the field in the first half to take a 48-21 lead.
Stephanie Rogers scored 13 points and Becki Ashbaugh had 12 points and six assists for Santa Clara.
Nieshia Cleveland scored 16 points and Kristina Naumovic had 13 points and five rebounds for Fullerton (2-5).
