Cotton Keys Long Beach Victory

Former Mater Dei standout Schea Cotton scored 28 points to lead unbeaten Long Beach to an 87-71 victory over Cypress in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Long Beach.

Chris Killens scored 23 points and Meko Parker had 19 for Cypress (4-7), which was outscored, 41-30, in the first half.

Long Beach is 12-0.

In the Riverside Holiday men’s basketball tournament:

Irvine Valley 96, Imperial Valley 58--Irvine Valley had five players in double figures as the Lasers took an immediate lead and held it throughout the game. Guard Earl Sanchez had 17 points, including four three-pointers, and five assists to lead Irvine Valley, which plays Mt. San Jacinto in the quarterfinals today.

Craig Rice and former Mission Viejo High standout Commander King scored 13 points each.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Grossmont 79, Orange Coast 77--Anthony Cooper scored 19 points and Arrin Langdon had 14 for Orange Coast (6-4). Shannon LeFever had 18 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Grossmont (5-5).
