Chapman Hangs On
Chapman withstood a late challenge from La Verne and defeated the Leopards, 88-86, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Wednesday at Chapman.
The Panthers (6-1) led by 10 points with four minutes left, but La Verne closed the gap with consecutive three-pointers.
Nate Strange made nine of 13 field-goal attempts and finished with 21 points to lead Chapman. Damon Williams scored 15 points and Tim Werdel had 12 for the Panthers.
Kevin Gustafson scored 24 points to lead the Leopards (1-4).
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Loyola Marymount 84, Cal State Fullerton 56--Loyola Marymount shot 56% from the field in the victory at Cal State Fullerton. Bryn Patton scored 23 points for Loyola (3-5).
Missy Bynon scored 14 points and Erin Whiteside and Andrea Thieme each had 12 for the Titans (1-4).
