KRLA
* I join many Angelenos in mourning the demise of KRLA (“KRLA Plays Rock ‘n’ Roll Swan Song,” Nov. 30). In an era full of hype and insincerity, KRLA was the genuine article, a radio station for the people. It held pancake breakfasts, aired community service announcements and devoted much of the programming to requests and dedications. The disc jockeys seemed kind and totally unpretentious, and the play list, while widely imitated, was unique.
And now, almost without warning, CBS has changed the format to talk radio, subjecting us to the likes of Don Imus and G. Gordon Liddy. Just what we all needed: more loud-mouthed, mean-spirited cynics on the airwaves. I’ll not be tuning in, CBS.
