Blackhawks Surge Past Lightning
Ed Olczyk scored the tiebreaking goal with 54.6 seconds as the Chicago Blackhawks scored five times in the third period and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 7-5, Sunday night at Chicago.
Alexei Zhamnov had two goals for the second straight game as the Blackhawks won their third game in a row. Zhamnov has five goals and five assists in his last six games.
Tampa Bay’s Darcy Tucker and Wendel Clark scored 78 seconds apart late in the third period to tie the game at 5-5 with 1:52 left.
Less than a minute later, Olczyk broke in and beat Lightning goalie Corey Schwab for his first goal of the season. Tony Amonte added an empty net goal, his second of the game and league-leading 20th, with 20 seconds left.
Dallas 6, Edmonton 2--In another high-scoring game, the Stars scored five goals in the second period at Edmonton to finish with their highest scoring output of the season. Jere Lehtinen scored two of the Stars’ second-period goals.
“The second period was the best period we’ve played all year,” Dallas Coach Ken Hitchcock said. “We were on our heels in the first period. It seemed like every chance we had we scored.”
Sergei Zubov, Grant Marshall and Dave Reid scored the other goals for Dallas in the second.
Phoenix 3, Vancouver 3--A third-period goal by the Canucks’ Chris McAllister at Vancouver kept the Coyotes from winning two in a row. They had won eight in a row before losing in Edmonton Wednesday and then won at Calgary on Saturday night.
