What: Sports Spectrum Greeting Cards
The sports fan in your family or your address book will get a laugh out of these sports-themed greeting cards. Featuring whimsical drawings of athletes and sayings that are as punny as they are funny, they cover a wide range of occasions and sports--and touch an assortment of religious bases by offering Hanukkah cards, Christmas cards and generic season’s greetings.
Golf, tennis, bowling, hockey and soccer are the most prominent sports in the line of 48 cards, but swimming and skiing will be featured when this Redondo Beach company expands its offerings to 60 cards in January. The current catalog also includes a figure skating-themed card, an ice fisherman and bicyclists.
Among the best: an anniversary card with a drawing of husband-and-wife bowlers embracing and the saying, “You are the only spare I need,” and a birthday card that features a hockey player celebrating a goal and the message, “Another one slides by! Happy Birthday!!”
Golf is featured on a birthday card that pictures a player filling out her scorecard and the message, “You shoot your age, but don’t want to show anyone the score. Happy birthday anyway,” and pops up again with a golf ball topped with a Santa Claus hat against the background of “Tees ‘n’ Greetings.”
There are blank cards, New Year’s cards, a Mother’s Day card, get-well cards, a friendship card, Valentine’s Day greetings, cards designed to cheer up the discouraged, and congratulatory cards for welcoming a new baby--or “your own first-round pick.” Artist Steve Curtis’ bright drawings are eye-catching and clever.
The cards can be ordered individually or in boxes of 12. The 12-card boxes can be customized, relating to a specific sport or specific occasion. Prices through the catalog range from 75 cents to $1.25 each.
The cards are available in selected stores, but company president Andrew Jamner said most sales are made through mail orders or the company’s website. To request a catalog or place an order, write to 324 South Pacific Coast Highway, Suite 201, Redondo Beach, CA 90277, or go to the company’s website at https://www.sportsgreetingcards.com. Telephone (800) 752-9426, or fax at (310) 543-0503.
