Dome Design Planned for Education Center

Officials are planning to break ground for a structure that will look more like the Cinerama Dome than a place of learning.

The 23,000-square-foot concrete dome will be the future site of the Baldwin Park Alternative Education Center, school officials said.

The two-story facility is believed to be the only domed facility designed for use in the state’s public school system, Principal Natalie Davidson said.

Inside the structure will be classrooms, a kitchen, staff offices, a computer lab, workrooms, a conference room, a mini-studio and storage rooms, she said. Large skylights at the apex of the dome will light the two-story atrium, Davidson said.
