Maddocks to Play in Quarterfinals
Ashley Maddocks of Laguna Beach will face top-seeded Jackie Carleton of Jenkintown, Pa., today in a girls’ 14 division quarterfinal at the Easter Bowl junior tennis tournament at the Riviera Resort and Racquet Club in Palm Springs.
Maddocks, seeded 14th, advanced with a victory Saturday over Julie Smekodub of New York.
The main draw singles’ players had Sunday off as the backdraw of singles continued along with doubles competition.
In the girls’ 16s, Huntington Beach’s Melissa Esmero, seeded 14th, will face fourth-seeded Kelly McCain of Largo, Fla. Arpi Kojian of Santa Ana also will compete in a quarterfinal match.
In the boys’ divisions, Irvine’s Aaron Yovan (14s), David Lingman (18s) and Chase Exon (18s) will begin quarterfinal action.
