Sheriff’s Station Invites the Public
CAMARILLO — The Ventura County sheriff’s Camarillo station will hold its first open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be exhibits from the station’s narcotics bureau, evidence collection and the emergency and disaster response teams. Guided tours of the facility will be conducted every 15 minutes.
Representatives from community programs will answer questions and a sergeant will address residents’ concerns.
The open house day is part of an outreach effort that includes a citizen’s patrol and Neighborhood Watch groups.
“The bottom line is that we depend on the residents to keep us informed as to what’s going on in their neighborhoods,” Deputy Daniel Place said. “We consider the community to be our eyes and ears. By reaching out to them, we hope to enlist their support in the battle against crime.”
McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, will talk with children throughout the day on how they can fight crime, and Eddie the Eagle will demonstrate gun safety.
Children can also visit the sheriff’s petting zoo, have their faces painted and be fingerprinted through the department’s safety prevention program.
Members of the Camarillo Moose Lodge will be selling refreshments.
The Camarillo station is at 3701 E. Las Posas Road.
