Lindros Bounces Back, Scores His 200th Goal
Benched for almost all of the third period in his previous game, Eric Lindros responded with a landmark goal and a five-point performance.
Lindros scored his 200th NHL goal and had four assists as the Philadelphia Flyers handed the Tampa Bay Lightning their fifth consecutive loss, 7-1, Tuesday night at Philadelphia.
“There are a lot of positive things we can take out of tonight,” said Lindros, who played poorly in a 5-1 loss to the Kings on Friday.
One of the positives was the play of Vinnie Prospal. Playing on the first line with Lindros and John LeClair, the rookie scored twice and had two assists while subbing for Dainius Zubrus, who was out with a bruised hand.
“If I could stay up there, every game would feel like that, but it’s Zuby’s spot, and I’m just filling in,” said Prospal, who has three goals and seven assists in nine games.
Lindros scored his 200th career goal at 9:05 of the second period, putting a 15-foot wrist shot past Lightning goalie Corey Schwab to give the Flyers a 5-1 lead. The goal moved Lindros past Ilkka Sinisalo into ninth place on the Flyers’ all-time list.
Vancouver 5, Dallas 1--Canuck goalie Arturs Irbe stopped 16 shots in the first period at Dallas to frustrate his former team, and Pavel Bure scored three goals.
Irbe made 29 saves in his first appearance of the season, earning his first victory for the Canucks after signing as a free agent in the off-season.
Irbe, the Stars’ backup goalie last season, kept the score tied at 1-1 in the opening period despite Dallas’ 17-2 advantage in shots.
Boston 2, Edmonton 1--Dave Ellett’s power-play goal with 4:26 remaining at Edmonton gave the surprising Bruins their fifth consecutive victory.
Ellett took a pass from Anson Carter and put a wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle off the crossbar and into the net for his first goal as a Bruin.
The goal came with 49 seconds left on a holding penalty to Edmonton’s Mats Lindgren.
Ray Bourque scored the other goal for Boston, which went 6-2 on its eight-game trip.
Notes
The Flyers acquired left wing Mike Maneluk from the Ottawa Senators for future considerations. Maneluk, 24, will report to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League. . . . Colorado Avalanche defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh will be out two to three weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
