Southern Section Nixes Proposal for More Games
Two of three items involving postseason state and regional playoffs were shot down by Southern Section council members on Tuesday.
Voting members, which include all league presidents, defeated proposals that would allow for postseason football bowl games and soccer invitationals.
A three-person officiating team for regional and state championship basketball games was approved.
The Southern Section vote on all three proposals will be taken to the California Interscholastic Federation meeting Oct. 31, where all 10 section commissioners will be polled.
Dean Crowley, commissioner of athletics of the Southern Section, eyeballed the “paddle” voters--who held up slips of paper when casting a vote--and did not deem it necessary to make an actual count on any of the three proposals.
