Penn State Regains No. 1 Ranking
Penn State is back on top again.
The Nittany Lions regained the No. 1 ranking in The Associated Press’ Top 25 college football poll Sunday after LSU’s 28-21 upset of Florida on Saturday.
The Gators (5-1), who took over the top spot from Penn State on Sept. 21, tumbled to No. 7, while the Nittany Lions (5-0) were the solid choice for No. 1.
Penn State, a 31-27 winner over Ohio State, received 51 first-place votes and 1,724 points from the 70 sports writers and broadcasters who vote in the poll.
Nebraska (5-0), which beat Baylor, 49-21, moved up to No. 2 with 14 first-place votes and 1,668 points. Florida State (5-0), a 51-27 winner over Duke, was No. 3 with three first-place votes and 1,603 points.
UCLA moved up a notch to 17th.

True freshman Charles Tharp rushed 29 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as Hawaii (3-3, 1-3) played a ball-control game to post a 28-16 upset over heavily favored Fresno State (2-4, 1-1) in a Western Athletic Conference game.
