Susan McDougal
Regarding “McDougal Wrongly in County Jail, Suit Says,†July 22, about the ACLU lawsuit to have Susan McDougal transferred to a federal prison:
Whitewater independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s office issued an utterly disingenuous statement, saying, “From the time that Ms. McDougal was first placed in federal custody . . . it was our position that [she] should be treated like any other person held on similar charges.â€
But wait a minute. She is not in federal custody. She is in a rough-and-tumble county lockup. Starr knows the conditions. He has done nothing to rectify the obvious error. Instead he has let it fester for months while he folded his arms, turned his back and let L.A. County blame it all on “paperwork.â€
Finally, we have a glimpse of the outrageous and brutal nature of Starr’s prosecutorial vendetta against the Clintons and Susan McDougal--assisted in this instance by the Sheriff’s Department. We see quite clearly that, where Starr is involved, we live in a police state.

* Incredible. Susan McDougal is being held isolated, indefinitely, in jail by Starr until McDougal confesses what Starr demands she confess. Why is the Republican “Dorian Gray†Congress allowed to persecute McDougal in this wretched witch hunt? We all know it is really about demeaning the Democratic presidency.
It is wrong. It is un-American. And it is stupid.
