Walin was projected for success before his fourth season as Thousand Oaks coach even started. He had all nine starters returning from a 1996 Lancer team that finished 21-9. And with its coach providing just the right touch, Thousand Oaks quickly advanced from title contender to Marmonte League front-runner. Top ranked in the region for most of the season, Thousand Oaks won its league, advanced to the southern section Division I semifinals and finished 26-4. Walin has a career record of 82-34-1.
