Newport Chief Takes On Additional Post

* Robert G. Deuster, president and chief executive of Newport Corp., has assumed the additional position of chairman. He succeeds Richard E. Schmidt, who will remain on the board. Deuster joined Newport as president and chief executive in May 1996. He was formerly a senior executive with Applied Power Inc. in Milwaukee. Newport Corp., based in Irvine, designs and manufactures components, instruments and integrated systems for the fiber optic communications, semiconductor equipment, computer peripherals and scientific research markets.

* Edward G. Danduran has been named chief financial officer of MGV International, an Irvine supplier of high-quality memory upgrade products. In addition to MGV International, Danduran will be responsible for the financial management activities for the company’s subsidiaries including MGV Memory, MGV Manufacturing, Trilogy and Ulysses Memory. He previously served as chief financial officer at Phoneby in Costa Mesa and Basic Enterprises in Newport Beach. Danduran was also financial consultant to Virgin Interactive Entertainment in Irvine and held senior-level financial management positions at KMPG Peat Marwick.

* Sheri Herman has been appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president of programming for Access Television Network in Irvine. She was previously president of American Cybercast.

* Mary Figlioli-Carter has joined National Bank of Southern California in Newport Beach as vice president for the real estate loan division. She comes to the bank from American Bank of Commerce in Las Vegas where she was an assistant vice president/loan officer.

* Robert H. Grandstaff has been named development controller and tax manager for MBK Real Estate Ltd. in Irvine. He was formerly a tax specialist for Bankers Trust in Irvine.

* Stephen Yeich has been appointed vice president of marketing for Printrak International Inc., an Anaheim supplier of automated fingerprint identification systems. Yeich was formerly director of business development. Previously, Yeich held consulting, marketing and sales positions with McKinsey & Company, IBM and GTE.

* Norman Katz has joined Financial Institutional Partners LLC in Irvine as managing director. For the past 12 years, Katz was president and managing partner of MCS Associates, a firm specializing in management and strategic consulting to commercial banks, thrifts, credit unions, insurance companies and mortgage banks. He also served as partner-in-charge of the national financial institutions consulting division of Grant Thornton.

* Robert Kehiayan has been named director of property management for Pan American Properties Inc. in Irvine. He previously owned a property management company.

* Gary Stenlund has joined Northern Trust Bank’s Newport Beach office as vice president of private client services. He has more than 12 years of industry experience.

* Rick Maslin has been named senior director of corporate communications for Fluor Daniel, assigned to the Government and Environmental Group. He will be based in Rosslyn, Va. Maslin joined Fluor Corp. in 1981 as a senior communications specialist. Since 1987, he has been director of corporate communications. From February 1996 to February 1997, he also acted as director of public affairs for Fluor Daniel Fernald.

* Carolyn Armentrout has joined Caliber Collision Centers in Irvine as senior account manager. She was formerly regional account manager of Vistar Auto Glass and its predecessor, Windshields of America.

* William K. Komperda has been named to the new position of managing director, capital markets and strategic planning for Long Beach Financial Corp. in Orange, the holding company for Long Beach Mortgage Co. For the past 10 years, Komperda was with the investment banking firm of Greenwich Capital Markets Inc. in Greenwich, Conn., most recently as senior vice president.

* Martin A. Traxler has been appointed vice president of graphic design for Design West Inc., a Mission Viejo product design company. Traxler was formerly vice president of creative services with Corporate Motivators Inc. in Costa Mesa.

* Greg Morton has been appointed district manager of Administaff Inc.’s new office in Newport Beach. Before joining the company, he was vice president of national sales and marketing for Fidelity National Tax Service.
