The Parks of Rossmoor
Expanses of grass, shade trees and tennis courts, where the pop of ball against racquet resonates all day long, characterize Rossmoor Park, one of two areas administered by the Rossmoor Community Services District.
The 8.5-acre Rossmoor and 8.2-acre Rush Park offer residents an array of facilities, including a sand volleyball court, baseball diamonds and tot lots. The parks also have horseshoe-pitching areas and picnic tables.
For the community support and volunteerism that created the two neighborhood spots, the Rossmoor parks, nominated by the Rossmoor Homeowners Assn., were recognized as a noteworthy neighborhood space in Orange County.
The Rossmoor Community Services District is made up of five residents elected to the policy-setting board. Executive Director Bill Sheldon oversees operations from his office in Rossmoor Park.
In addition to the two large parks, the district also oversees Foster Mini-Park and Kempton Mini-Park.
“I use these parks weekly for the tennis courts,” Huntington Beach resident Mike Locklin said. The tennis buff said he meets a Long Beach tennis partner in Rossmoor at least once a week because the courts are exceptionally well maintained.
Residents can pay a $3 fee and reserve the courts for a 90-minute session, which can be expanded if no reservations follow, park office worker Chris Combs said.
