Freedman Hits 29th Home Run for Record

Tamra Freedman hit the 28th and 29th home runs of her career to break the Southern Section record of 28 set by Jenny Dalton of Glendale High in 1992 and Montclair Prep routed Riverside La Sierra, 24-0, Thursday in a nonleague softball game that was called after five innings at La Sierra.

Freedman hit a three-run homer in the second inning to tie Dalton’s mark and added a grand slam for the Mounties (10-11) in a 16-run fifth inning.

“The bases were loaded and I felt it coming,” Freedman said. “This is great. It’s something I get to tell my kids.”

Freedman, who has committed to Texas, finished with three hits and eight runs batted in.

Laura Power (8-9) pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

Fillmore 3, Oak Park 1--Linsey Evans had a run-scoring triple and scored on Melanie Schrock’s single during a three-run fourth inning for the Flashes (12-6, 5-1 in league play) in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.

Thousand Oaks 2, Newbury Park 0--Jennifer Sharron (13-3) pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 for the Lancers (16-3, 8-2) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Kristin Combe, who had two hits, tripled home Jennifer Richards with one out in the fourth to break a scoreless tie. Combe scored when the relay throw got away from the third baseman.

Simi Valley 6, Royal 2--Brittney Green’s two-run single sparked a four-run third inning in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Santa Susana Park.

Lori Tande and Alex Ingraham each added two hits for the Pioneers (16-4, 7-3), The Times’ second-ranked team in the area.

Hart 5, Burbank 0--Kellie Nordhagen had a run-scoring single and Amanda Fortune (15-5) did not allow a hit and struck out six in four innings for the Indians (17-6, 4-2) in a Foothill League game at Newhall Park.

Saugus 20, Canyon 1--Tracy Passafiume had four hits and four RBIs and Shannon McRoy had three hits and four RBIs for the Centurions (18-5, 6-0), The Times’ second-ranked team in the region, in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Burroughs 2, Valencia 1--Dani Morris’ two-out double in the bottom of the seventh scored Carla Abejon with the winning run in a Foothill League game at Olive Park. Burroughs (13-8, 3-3) pulled into a third-place tie with Valencia (11-10, 3-3).

Malia Sullivan (6-2) threw a three-hitter, striking out three and walking none.

Hoover 18, Muir 0--Freshman Cori Herbert combined with Erin Lucero for five perfect innings in a Pacific League game that was called after five innings.

Herbert pitched the first three innings and struck out six. Lucero had four strikeouts.

Palmdale 6, Highland 3--The Falcons (13-8, 5-1) stayed in second place in the Golden League by overcoming a 3-0 deficit at Highland. Amanda Kaufman drove in three runs on a single and a sacrifice fly.

Quartz Hill 11, Antelope Valley 1--Amber Slaton hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth for the Rebels (15-5, 6-0) to end the Golden League game. Slaton had two hits and four RBIs.

Jodie Cox (12-4) pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight.

La Reina 15, Carpinteria 0--Danielle Field pitched her second no-hitter of the season for the Regents (11-8, 4-2) in a Tri-Valley League game at Carpinteria that was called after five innings. Field had eight strikeouts and one walk, facing the minimum 15 batters for the second time.

Franklin 1, Verdugo Hills 0--Kim Wood threw a no-hitter, striking out 14 and walking none, for Verdugo Hills (19-3, 9-1) in a Northern Conference game in Highland Park. Woods lost a perfect game and a shutout when she made two throwing errors that led to an unearned run in the seventh.

Kennedy 2, Granada Hills 0--Stacey Fields and Monica Espita each drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning for the Golden Cougars (19-2, 10-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.

Sandra Durazo (19-2) pitched a five-hitter and struck out 10.

El Camino Real 15, Chatsworth 5--Ramona Shelburne had four hits, including a three-run home run, for the Conquistadores (16-3, 9-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth (12-7, 5-5).

Ashley Redlin (9-3) allowed five hits and struck out five.

San Fernando 8, Cleveland 6--Crystal Vega had two hits and two RBIs and Michelle Molina (4-3) won in relief for the Tigers (9-13, 3-7) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Cleveland.

Village Christian 6, Frazier Mountain 0--Jaclyn Aranda (9-6) pitched a one-hitter, allowing only a single to the first batter, and had two hits for the Crusaders (13-8, 6-0) in an Alpha League game.
