Sweet Effort Lifts L.A. Baptist Over Village Christian
Jermaine Sweet scored 34 points to lead L.A. Baptist High over Village Christian, 91-71, in an Alpha League boys’ basketball game Tuesday night at Village Christian.
Amir Law added 18 points for the Knights (18-1, 7-0 in league play), the ninth-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll.
Ryan Vivian scored 23 points for Village Christian (9-10, 4-3), which trailed at halftime, 53-35.
Littlerock 73, Quartz Hill 56--Phil Langford scored 29 points for the Lobos ((3-18, 1-3) in a Golden League game at Littlerock.
Josh Raheem had 14 points and seven assists and his brother, Isiah, had 16 points for Littlerock.
Montclair Prep 83, Boron 57--Rocky Steryo had 35 points, including six three-point baskets, and 10 rebounds, and Micah Cohen had 15 points, 10 assists and six steals for the Mounties (13-6) in a nonleague game at Boron (4-9).
Steryo has 76 three-pointers this season.
Paraclete 81, Kern Valley 54--Tony Gaeta scored 21 points for the Spirits (10-7, 4-1) in a High Desert League game at Paraclete.
GIRLS
Buena 65, Santa Barbara 46--Stephanie Kinnear had 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Bulldogs (15-2, 9-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, in a Channel League game at Buena. Kinnear made 10 of 14 shots.
Ventura 62, San Marcos 28--Erin Oshita scored 16 points and Becky Dahl had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (13-5, 6-3) in a Channel League game at Ventura.
Oxnard 45, Rio Mesa 36--Jaline Bradley scored 21 points for the Yellowjackets (10-9, 5-4) in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa.
Karla Kanongata’a had 15 points for the Spartans (9-10, 2-7).
Royal 48, Newbury Park 40--The Highlanders (12-6, 7-2) made seven three-point baskets in a Marmonte League game at Royal.
Alicia Weber, Michelle Berlin and Sarah Parola each scored 13 points for Royal.
Bell-Jeff 82, Mary Star 22--Jaclyn Johnson had 16 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals and six assists for the Guards (20-1, 5-0) in a Camino Real League game at Bell-Jeff.
Stacey Cobb added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Bell-Jeff, the fourth-ranked team in The Times’ regional poll.
Quartz Hill 74, Littlerock 49--Kenya Corley had 27 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Rebels (13-2, 3-1), ranked fifth by The Times, in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.
Calabasas 41, Malibu 26--Heather Robertson had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Coyotes (9-7, 2-3) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.
Paraclete 56, Kern Valley 35--Kim Whisler had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Spirits (15-2, 5-0) in a High Desert League game at Paraclete.
Fillmore 77, Carpinteria 17--April Kozar had 26 points and 15 rebounds for the Flashes (15-5, 5-0) in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.
La Reina 58, Bishop Diego 35--Kindrea Cuccia scored 18 points for the Regents (10-4, 4-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at La Reina.
