Man Shot in Ankle by Gunman in Car
An 18-year-old man walking on Vaughn Street early Sunday night was slightly injured when he was shot by a gunman riding by in a car.
Oscar Escobedo of Pacoima was shot once in the ankle just before 6 p.m. as he walked eastward on Vaughn Street near Herrick Street.
“He saw a flash and then realized he had been shot,” said Det. Steve Ospi of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division, adding that he thought “it must have been a ricochet that hit him.”
Ospi said there were no words exchanged between Escobedo and the men in the car before the shooting.
Escobedo was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where he was treated for minor wounds and released.
