Clark Keeps Canyons on a Roll
LaCresha Clark made seven three-point shots en route to scoring 37 points Saturday night, leading College of the Canyons over Bakersfield, 82-56, in a Western State Conference intra-division women’s basketball game at Bakersfield.
It was the eighth victory in a row for Canyons (20-4, 3-0 in conference play) and the 100th overall for Greg Herrick in his five seasons as coach. The Cougars are 100-54 in his tenure.
In addition, Clark had 13 steals and six assists. Zevette Mitchell scored 13 points and Gohar Tumanian added 10.
Valley 87, West L.A. 50--Kristen Kiley-Boynton recorded a triple-double with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals for the Monarchs (16-8, 3-0) in a Western State Conference Southern Division game at West L.A.
Ventura 85, Cuesta 59--Cindi Jensen scored 18 points and Amirah Leonard had 15 points and seven steals for the Pirates (23-1, 2-0) in a WSC Northern Division game at Ventura.
Antelope Valley 57, Cerro Coso 53--Amy Egan scored 18 points and Kristin Phillips added 15 for the Marauders (10-12, 5-4) in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.
Cal Lutheran 103, La Sierra 43--Evi Orologas had 27 points and 16 rebounds and Melissa Wood scored 18 points for the Regals in a nonconference victory at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran (9-5) went on a 15-2 run in a 7 1/2-minute span of the first half to pull away from the Golden Eagles (2-17). The Regals led, 57-46, at halftime after La Sierra committed 30 of its 48 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Pepperdine 86, Gonzaga 41--Angie White’s 16 points paced the Waves (11-7, 3-3) in a West Coast Conference game at Pepperdine. Lisa Siders added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Pepperdine.
Southern Utah 66, Cal State Northridge 53--Cathy Moric and Sarah Bell each scored 12 points for the Matadors (3-15) in a nonconference game at Northridge.
Master’s 83, Pacific Christian 44--Elizabeth Hansell scored 11 points for the Mustangs (12-9) in a nonconference game at Master’s.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal State L.A. 84, Master’s 68--Despite Mike Penberthy’s 28 points, the Mustangs (13-7) fell in a nonconference game at Cal State L.A. (11-6).
Glendale 87, Santa Monica 78--Ryan Syvla had 29 points and six rebounds for the Vaqueros (9-14, 1-1), who rallied from a 16-point deficit in a Western State Conference Southern Division game at Glendale.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Cal State Northridge 63, Northern Arizona 53; Northridge 75, Southern Utah 23; Northridge 97, New Mexico 17--Cherice Ellison won the 200-meter dash in 25.65 seconds and finished second in the 55 in 7.24 to pace the Matadors (3-0) in a four-team nonconference indoor meet at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz.
MEN’S TRACK
Northern Arizona 62, Cal State Northridge 54; Northridge 70, Southern Utah 41; Northridge 75, New Nexico 31--Freshman Jason Hammond won the shotput with a personal best of 56-8 3/4, and senior Jeff Nasternak took the 800 in 2:00.81 to help the Matadors (2-1) finish second at Flagstaff, Ariz.
