A T&J; Farewell
I enjoyed the article by Margaret Sheridan about the good old Tom and Jerry drink (“The Last T&J;,” Dec. 26). Sad to say, the T&J; is going the way of the old-fashioned even here in Wisconsin, and particularly the Fox River Valley, the brandy-drinkers’ capital of the universe. I haven’t had one myself in at least a decade, when I worked for a small paper just outside Milwaukee. Long before quitting time, the entire newsroom would decamp to the tavern around the corner from the pressroom and enjoy T&J;’s for the happy-hour price of $1 each. I tried to hunt one down this year for old time’s sake and was greeted with blank looks. It’s a healthier world, but not quite as fun.
