Royal Flush With 43-41 Success as Weber Plays the Trump Card
Alicia Weber’s layup with nine seconds left gave Royal High a 43-41 victory over Westlake in a Marmonte League game at Westlake High Tuesday night.
The Highlanders (8-4, 3-0 in league) trailed, 41-38, in the final minutes, but Jessica Sanders hit a short jumper and a free throw to tie the game.
Kristi Valencia had 22 points for the Warriors (3-9, 1-2), including four three-pointers.
Agoura 49, Camarillo 36--Amirra Elgamiel scored 15 points, six in the fourth quarter, to give the Chargers (6-6, 1-1) a Marmonte League victory at Camarillo.
Simi Valley 78, Newbury Park 37--Shannon Malia had 17 points and Jensa Metcalf added 13 for the Pioneers (10-6, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
The Panthers (3-9, 0-3) committed 30 turnovers.
Tawni Yamauchi and Malia Kimball had six points each for Newbury Park.
Buena 56, Santa Barbara 51--Nicole Greathouse scored 14 points, Kelly Murray added 12 and Stephanie Kinnear contributed 11 and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-1, 2-0) in a Channel League game at Santa Barbara.
Buena is ranked first in the region by The Times.
Lisa Willett scored 15 points for Santa Barbara (5-8, 0-2) and Jessica Burnham added 12.
Calabasas 51, Crossroads 44--Heather Robertson had 22 points and 18 rebounds for the Coyotes at Calabasas.
Alyssa Love contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds for Calabasas (7-4).
Tiffany Cave made seven of 10 three-point shots and scored 32 points for Crossroads.
Montclair Prep 54, West Valley Christian 16--Shannon Simpson had 18 points and Tiffany Groode added 10 for the Mounties (9-3) at Montclair Prep.
Littlerock 44, Valencia 37--The Lobos (11-3) rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to turn back the Vikings (9-6) at Littlerock.
Carrie Miller and Crystal Trumble each had eight points in the second half for the Lobos.
Alemany 67, Notre Dame 49--The Knights (5-9, 0-1) scored only four points in the second quarter and could not recover in a Mission League game at Notre Dame.
Kelly Kobayashi had 18 points, including four three-pointers, for Alemany.
Michelle Barraza scored 10 points for Notre Dame.
Oxnard 54, Rio Mesa 39--Danielle Curtis scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (7-5, 2-0) in a Channel League game at Oxnard.
Jaline Bradley contributed 14 points for Oxnard.
Harvard-Westlake 61, Louisville 44--Omelogo Udeze had 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Wolverines (12-5) in a Mission League opener at Harvard-Westlake.
Corrie Roberts added 13 points for Harvard-Westlake.
Becky Witt scored 22 points for the Royals (8-3, 0-1).
Channel Islands 56, Thousand Oaks 51--Judy Tuimoloau scored 16 points and Chenne Tuimolau added 15 for the Raiders in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
The Lancers (7-4, 2-1) held a 51-50 lead in the closing minutes but Channel Islands rallied with three baskets to pull off the upset victory.
Jenn Detmer scored 27 points for Thousand Oaks.
