Walker, Martinez and Reddick Join Fargas in Making Top Team
Tailback Justin Fargas of Notre Dame High, wide receiver Patrick Reddick of Newbury Park, defensive back Tony Walker of Antelope Valley and linebacker Joe Martinez of Ventura have been selected to the 1996 All-Southern Section football team.
The team is selected by the Southern California Interscholastic Football Coaches Assn. and is sponsored by the Amateur Athletic Foundation and Wells Fargo Bank.
Fargas rushed for 2,945 yards and 34 touchdowns while leading Notre Dame to a fourth consecutive Mission League championship and a berth in the Southern Section Division III final against Camarillo.
Walker rushed for 1,238 yards and 14 touchdowns, and Reddick had 77 receptions for 1,358 yards and eight touchdowns.
Quarterback Joe Borchard and wide receiver Mike Anger, who helped Camarillo to the Division III championship, were second-team selections.
Tackle Ricky Bednarek of Notre Dame, linebacker Gary Hardy of Antelope Valley and defensive tackle Jacob Waasdorp of Quartz Hill also were selected to the second team.
The association also selected a team for Divisions I through XII. Regional players selected:
Division II: Quarterbacks Travis Carroll of Hart and J.K. Scott of Burroughs, wide receivers Will Demps of Highland, Cody Joyce of Hart and Glen Adriatico of Burroughs, offensive lineman Vincent Sandoval of Palmdale, linebackers Malachi Keddington of Highland, Todd Hourigan of Hart and Kevin Giberson of Saugus, and defensive lineman Aaron Yost of Antelope Valley.
Walker was selected defensive player of the year.
With Carroll’s selection, Hart has had an All-Southern Section quarterback for 13 consecutive seasons.
Division III: Quarterback Chris Czernek of Newbury Park, wide receiver Joey Cuppari of Westlake, offensive lineman Joey Locklear of Ventura, Brian Nelson of Newbury Park, Nick Yerton of Crescenta Valley, kicker Ryan Geisler of Camarillo, defensive backs Eugene Jackson of Camarillo, Courtney Palmore of Oxnard, Jorge Piedra of Notre Dame, linebackers Jud Southwell of Thousand Oaks, Kevin Stromsborg of Notre Dame, defensive lineman Robert Eland of St. Francis, Ryan Nielsen of Royal, Travis Ueltschi of Buena, Chris Wear of Ventura and punter John Gonzales of Simi Valley.
Borchard and Fargas were selected co-players of the year. Piedra was selected defensive player of the year. Carl Thompson of Camarillo was selected coach of the year.
Division X: Quarterback Teohua Sanchez of St. Bonaventure, running back Russell Farrar of Nordhoff, wide receiver Pepe Villasenor of St. Bonaventure, offensive linemen Matt Merritt of Nordhoff, Mike Chester of Calabasas and Todd Therrian of St. Bonaventure, defensive back Jim Musick of Nordhoff, linebackers Aaron Pettitt of Santa Paula, Robby Coppola of Calabasas, and defensive linemen David Bernal of St. Bonaventure, Shane Barrett of Nordhoff and Travis LaValle of Moorpark.
Sanchez was selected offensive player of the year. Jon Mack of St. Bonaventure of selected coach of the year.
Division XI: Quarterback Peter Dirksen of L.A. Baptist, running back Dominic Washington of Paraclete, wide receiver Tim Feirfeil of L.A. Baptist, kicker Matt Ryburn of Village Christian and defensive back Aaron Funk of Village Christian.
Division XII: defensive back Matt Lindar and defensive lineman Lawrence Park of Flintridge Prep.
