Web Site Offers City Information
The city of Calabasas has established its onramp to the Information Superhighway with the launch of an official site on the World Wide Web--making information about the city available at the click of a mouse.
The new web site will be a place for Calabasas residents to find information about city services, city council meetings and recreational activities available to them, said City Channel Manager Deborah Steller, who will maintain the site.
The pages will be updated every few weeks, and will take submissions and feedback from residents who visit the site at https://www.scag.org/homepages/calabasas
“This is a work in progress, but we have to start somewhere,” Steller said. “This is another way of getting information to the public. It’s becoming very popular in a lot of cities.”
City Councilwoman Lesley Devine said she was pleased that the site has finally been made available.
“We want to make municipal government accessible to the community, and to have information and answers easy to get,” Devine said. “And also to reach out to people who don’t know about our city.”
Residents will be able to speak up--and out--about issues pertaining to the city through e-mail, and find answers to frequently asked questions regarding marriage licenses, business licenses and other city-related matters.
The web page is hosted by the Southern California Assn. of Governments, which offers member cities free computers, training and user space to create the page.
“We’re a cutting-edge community,” Devine said. “And we have to be in touch with this world. It’s a world of technology and new communications. The Internet is changing the way we relate to each other and to the community, to the world.”
