Thompson Has Busy Night in Trojans’ 70-63 Victory
Senior forward Tina Thompson had a game-high 23 points, 10 rebounds and four steals to lead USC to a 70-63 victory against Washington State on Saturday night in Pullman.
The Trojans (8-3, 2-0 in the Pac-10) went on a 13-0 run early in the second half, turning a 44-38 deficit into a 51-44 lead with 13:48 remaining in the game.
Jodi Parriott and Kristin Clark each scored 13 points for USC.
Washington State (5-5, 0-2) was led by Amy Saneholtz with 17 points.
Washington 98, UCLA 75--Jamie Redd scored 31 points as the Huskies outshot the Bruins from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line in their Pac-10 game at Seattle.
Redd hit four three-pointers and converted nine of 10 free throws in scoring 30 or more points for the second straight game and fourth time this season.
The Huskies had eight three-pointers to UCLA’s two, and Washington made 28 of 38 free throws compared to 11 of 18 for the Bruins.
Amber Hall had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Laure Savasta scored 13 points and hit three three-pointers and Elise Niemela chipped in 11 points for the Huskies (6-5, 1-1 Pac-10).
Maylana Martin scored 18 points, Janae Hubbard had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Tawana Grimes added 13 points for the Bruins (7-4, 1-1).
Redd scored eight points during a 16-4 run midway through the first half, but UCLA countered with a 9-0 run that tied the score at 25-25.
With the score tied for the last time at 29-29, Redd scored six points during a 17-6 run that gave the Huskies a 46-35 lead with 1:28 left in the first half.
Washington did not relinquish the lead and went into halftime ahead 46-38.
UCLA closed to within eight points early in the second half, but the Huskies quickly reestablished a commanding double-digit lead.
