UCLA Extension Offers Art Lecture Series
“A Painter and a Queen: Elisabeth Louise Vigee Lebrun and Marie-Antoinette,” a lecture by art historian Lesley Heins Walker, will kick off a new Saturday morning art lecture series offered by UCLA Extension Jan. 11 at 9:30 a.m. at UCLA.
Walker will explore the relationship between the French queen and Lebrun, who was commissioned just before the French Revolution to paint Marie-Antoinette and her children.
Other topics to be covered in the series are: “German Expressionism: The Artist and Society,” Jan. 25; “The Quiet Genius of Johannes Vermeer,” Feb. 1; “Kiki Smith: The Body in Context,” Feb. 8; and “ ‘Endowed by Heaven’: Raphael and His Art,” March 1.
