Schottenheimer Still Expects to Be Chief
Marty Schottenheimer is laughing off speculation that he won’t return next season as head coach in Kansas City.
“I’m under contract with the Kansas City Chiefs,” Schottenheimer said, acknowledging that his name has been linked to several job openings around the NFL. “I expect I’ll be here in 1997.”
The same is probably not true for many of the players who contributed to a 9-7 season that kept Kansas City out of the playoffs for only the second time since Schottenheimer arrived in 1989.
“As far as changes, I don’t think it makes any sense to sit around here and speculate about changes. Change is part of the National Football League,” he said.
