Zaire Rebels Capture Another Town in Sweep
IRINGITE, Zaire — Rebels fighting to oust President Mobutu Sese Seko have captured another town in northeastern Zaire and are taking on government troops farther west, a rebel leader said Monday.
Ahead of them, fleeing Zairian troops have been on widespread looting sprees, rampaging through the cities of Bunia and Beni and the town of Isiro in the past few days. At least 10 people were reported killed this weekend in Bunia.
The rebels say they have encircled Bunia, where 3,000 government troops are reported trapped, but have not begun fighting for the city.
