Central Los Angeles : Low-Cost Housing Opens for Teenage Mothers, Families

Two new low-cost housing programs in the Belmont area of Pico-Union celebrated their grand opening Thursday.
Built by New Economics for Women, a nonprofit corporation, the two apartment complexes will provide affordable housing along with social services such as day care and job training for teenage mothers and large low-income families.
The complexes were financed by corporate and government grants totaling $27.5 million, said Maggie Cervantes of New Economics for Women.
One project, La Posada, was built for up to 60 families of teenage mothers. The other project, La Villa Mariposa, has 150 units, from singles to four bedroom apartments for larger families. . . .
