COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Araujo Sparks Golden West in Water Polo
Andre Araujo scored eight goals in two games as Golden West defeated Cuesta, 12-8, and tied Ventura, 10-10, in pool play at the Merced water polo tournament Saturday.
Araujo had five goals in the opening game against Cuesta and added three in the second game against Ventura.
In the consolation round of the San Diego Mesa water polo tournament:
Gauchos tie San Diego Mesa, Shores--Saddleback (4-4-2) ended up tied with San Diego Mesa for fifth place. Brian Pearce had three goals in the Gauchos’ 8-8 tie with San Diego Shores and five goals in their 16-16 tie with Mesa.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
Rancho Santiago 4, Cuyamaca 2--Raul Moncada scored twice for Rancho Santiago (5-1).
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Cuesta 0--Ursula Luna and Tina Bowman each had 10 kills for top-ranked Golden West in the 15-7, 15-7, 15-6 victory over 10th-ranked Cuesta.
In the Golden Coast Fairview Park men’s cross-country classic:
Sanchez finishes fourth--Adalberto Sanchez of Saddleback finished fourth overall with a time of 20 minutes 11 seconds. Orange Coast finished seventh with 290 points. Glendale (59) finished first.
In the women’s competition, Irvine Valley finished seventh with 233 points, far behind winner Mt. San Antonio (58).
