BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Fehr Taking Players’ ‘Pulse’
Donald Fehr, head of the baseball players’ union, has embarked on an informational tour to meet with players from all 28 teams by early next month.
“We haven’t seen the guys since spring training, and there was a need felt to come around, summarize for everybody what’s been going on, answer everybody’s questions, take a pulse,” Fehr said after meeting with the Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers at County Stadium.
“There’s certainly no big announcements or decisions being made.”
Fehr reiterated his opinion that this year’s postseason almost certainly won’t be scrapped.
“All I can say is what I have before, very unlikely. I still say that,” Fehr said.

The Athletics activated right-hander Steve Ontiveros off the disabled list in time to start against the Boston Red Sox and placed right-hander Ariel Prieto on the 15-day DL.
Ontiveros, 8-4 with a 3.58 earned-run average, had been sidelined since July 16 because of right elbow soreness. Prieto, 2-6 with a 5.43 ERA in 14 games since being selected by Oakland in the first round of the June amateur draft, has right biceps tendinitis.
