EVERYWHERE
Sow: Radishes, winter greens and herbs; also peas (except in high mountains), broccoli, carrots, cauliflower (except in mountains), beets, kohlrabi and turnips (except in high mountains and low desert).
Plant: Garlic, shallots.
Harvest: Assorted beans, cardoon, collards, eggplant, herbs, Jerusalem artichokes, kale, New Zealand spinach, summer squash, pumpkins, gourds and winter squash. Also corn, cucumbers, melons and watermelons, peppers, tomatillos and tomatoes (except in low desert), Asian greens, beets, leafy celery, chard, green garlic, onions, shallots, radishes (except in deserts), peanuts (except in mountains) and sweet potatoes (except in deserts and mountains).
COASTAL CLIMATES
Sow: Brussels sprouts and fennel.
Plant: Perennial herbs.
Harvest: Artichokes, carrots, cauliflower, kohlrabi, salad greens and turnips.
HIGH DESERT
Sow: Brussels sprouts, celeriac, leaf celery and onions.
LOW DESERT
Sow: All high desert plus common beans, garbanzo beans, favas, cardoon, cucumbers, fennel, mustards and sunflowers.
Plant: Artichokes and strawberries.
INTERIOR CLIMATES
(where fuchsias grow fairly well)
Harvest: carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi and turnips.
MOUNTAINS
Harvest: Artichokes, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, kohlrabi, onions, radishes, salad greens, spinach and turnips.
