Remmenga Notches 1st Career Win
VENTURA — The final lap of Friday night’s 20-lap Street Stock feature race at Ventura Raceway came down to a battle between a second-year driver in search of his first career victory and a four-time defending track champion going for his 50th.
Youth won out over experience, as Joel Remmenga of Camarillo held off Paul Moore of Oak View to win by four lengths.
Moore, who broke a one-year drought with a victory last week, headed into the final lap side by side with Remmenga.
When Moore bumped a lapped car driven by Dave Dickenson of Camarillo in the backstretch, he lost his chance to pass Remmenga, who lost a muffler two weeks ago in a race he was leading.
Points leader Greg Voigt of Goleta finished third, adding to his lead over fourth-place finisher Randy McGraw of Ventura.
The 15-lap Mini Stock main and the 15-lap Pony Stock feature also went to first-time winners.
Jim Tietz of Camarillo started on the pole and went wire to wire in the Mini Stock event, and Andy Oviatt of Ventura charged through the pack to victory after starting eighth in the Pony Stock feature.
Defending track champion Ryan Cole of Santa Maria won the 20-lap Modified main event.
