Director Robert Altman has put together another eclectic lineup for the soundtrack to his upcoming film, “Pret-a-Porter,” a look at the fashion industry. Among the new recordings are a Sam Phillips version of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ ” (heard during a scene featuring Lyle Lovett, who plays a Texas boot designer) and “Here We Come” by Salt-N-Pepa. Also featured is the current hit single “Here Comes the Hotstepper” by Jamaican singer Ini Komaze, a new Brand New Heavies song and remixes by U2 and the Cranberries. The album is due Dec. 6, with the movie opening Dec. 12. . . .

Brendan Mullen, founder of the seminal L.A. punk club the Masque, is releasing a series of three albums of material recorded there. The first volume of “Live at the Masque 1978,” due Nov. 4, will include tracks by the Germs, the Weirdos, the Bags and the Skulls. The two future volumes will include performances by X, the Screamers, Black Randy, the Zeros and others.

Record executive/headbanger Rick Rubin is producing AC/DC’s next album in New York, with plans for release next year. . . . Meanwhile, Canadian industrial-rock band Skinny Puppy is in Vancouver finishing its first album for Rubin’s American Recordings, due in spring or summer. . . .

Chuck Leavell, the Rolling Stones’ keyboardist on the “Voodoo Lounge” tour, is a nominee for the J. Sterling Morton Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation honoring achievement in tree planting and conservation. Leavell, who has played with the Stones since 1982 and formerly played with the Allman Brothers Band and his own Sea Level, operates a pine farm in his native Georgia. . . .
