In Brief
* * * Megadeth, “Youthanasia,” Capitol. Megadeth main man Dave Mustaine has a horde of demons to wrestle. Fueled by a fiery intellect and fierce instrumental support, his musical exorcisms are as enticing as they are grim. “Youthanasia” seethes with the usual pungent guitar, strafing riffage and relentless rhythms infused with a covert melodiousness. Mustaine’s vocals seem earthier, which enhances his forbidding commentaries about society’s (and his own) fatal flaws.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
