HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Los Alamitos Keeps Streak Alive With Late Drive, 35-32
With the longest active winning streak in the Southern Section hanging in the balance Thursday, quarterback Kevin Feterik led Los Alamitos High on an 83-yard drive in the final two minutes to help the Griffins defeat Anaheim Esperanza, 35-32, in a Sunset League game at Long Beach Veterans Stadium.
Feterik, who completed 21 of 32 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns, completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Stan Guyness with 1 minute 15 seconds remaining, and Los Alamitos (8-0, 3-0 in league play) held on for its 43rd consecutive victory.
Esperanza (5-3, 2-1) had rolled up more than 400 yards of total offense and Ryan Wilkins returned the kickoff to the 41.
But Los Alamitos’ defense secured the victory when Dax Houston sacked Chris Stretch and the ball popped loose. Ryan Wanigasekera recovered for Los Alamitos to ensure the victory.
