Tustin : Sports Items Auction to Benefit Teen Shelter

Angels pitching coach and baseball Hall of Fame candidate Bert Blyleven will serve as chairman of a silent sports memorabilia auction to support Laurel House, a local teen shelter.

The fund-raiser will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at Tustin Presbyterian Church, 225 W. Main St.

Featured at the auction will be autographed bats and baseballs, tickets to sporting events and items donated by sports stars such as Muhammad Ali, Richard Petty and Michael Chang. There will also be a raffle, live music and children’s games, along with food and refreshment sales. Admission is free.

Gil J. Gonzales, who serves as a volunteer house parent at the nonprofit shelter, is coordinating the event.

Founded in 1986, Laurel House is a five-bedroom home that provides emergency shelter to runaway teen-agers. Counselors attempt to reunite the teens with their families.
