Microsoft Retools China Strategy: Microsoft has begun courting partners in China to help design and launch the Chinese version of its next-generation Windows 95 software, signaling a new approach to the world’s biggest untapped market. The senior-level effort to cultivate ties with software developers, industry regulators and the trade press aims also to smooth feathers ruffled during the U.S. software giant’s blunt-edged entry into China last year. “There is no question we’ve made mistakes here,” Microsoft Corp. Vice President Charles Stevens said. Company executives acknowledge having alienated key electronics ministry officials by relying heavily on managers from archrival Taiwan.
