Bloch Fans Can Still Go a Little ‘Psycho’ at Halloween Party : Phantom Bookshop offers signed copies of anniversary edition at memorial celebration of the macabre author.
Author Robert Bloch, who died in September at the age of 77, had planned a Halloween visit to the Phantom Bookshop to celebrate publication of the 35th anniversary edition (only 500 copies published worldwide) of his masterpiece “Psycho.” Instead, a posthumous book signing to honor the master of the macabre will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday at 451 E. Main St., Ventura. The bookshop will offer 75 numbered copies of “Psycho--The 35th Anniversary Edition,” which Bloch had signed in anticipation of the event.

Ventura police officers will be at Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 4360 East Main St., Ventura from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to introduce children to the Identi-Kid fingerprinting program. The officers will give out tips on how to have a safe Halloween and McGruff, the crime-fighting dog, will make an appearance.

Weekly story time begins again every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and on Saturday at 3 p.m. And at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Patricia Polacco, author of dozens of picture books including “Pink and Say” and “Tikvah Means Hope” will perform at the bookstore.

Cal Lutheran University’s House on the Hill preschool will celebrate its 20th anniversary at a storytelling and book signing at 2 p.m. Sunday featuring author / illustrator Patricia Polacco.
