PREP CROSS-COUNTRY ROUNDUP : Pacheco Sets Records, Keys Brethren Christian Victory
Brethren Christian’s Brandon Pacheco set the school and course record and led his team to victories over Whittier Christian and Cerritos Valley Christian in an Olympic League three-way boys’ cross-country meet Thursday.
Pacheco finished first for the Warriors (8-2, 5-1) in 15 minutes 37 seconds over three miles at El Dorado Park. The Warriors beat Whittier Christian, 27-29, and Valley Christian, 17-45.
In the Freeway League:
La Habra 15, Fullerton 50--La Habra swept the top five places to improve its record to 3-0. Bryan Mahan finished first in 16:24 at La Habra.
Sunny Hills 19, Buena Park 40--Ranen Bhattacharya and Garrett Jensen finished tied first for host Sunny Hills (5-0, 3-0).
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 21, Rancho Alamitos 38--Mike Balderas finished in 15:49 at Miles Square Park for Garden Grove (2-0).
Los Amigos 20, La Quinta 43--Jess Strutzel finished first in 16:33 for La Quinta (0-2) at Mile Square Park. Luis Renteria finished second in 16:42 and teammate Jerry Segura took third in 16:59 for Los Amigos (1-2).
Santiago 16, Pacifica 46; Santiago 15, Bolsa Grande 49; Pacifica 21, Bolsa Grande 37--Franky Hernandez finished in 15:24 at Mile Square Park 15:24 for Santiago (4-0).
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 15, Savanna 45--Michael Cortez led the sweep for visiting Brea-Olinda (5-3, 2-1) finishing 16:22.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 27, Estancia 30--Zeke Noonan lead the way for host Costa Mesa (1-2), finishing the in 16:57, one second ahead of Bart Kowalski of Estancia (0-3 in league).
In Freeway League girls’ cross-country:
La Habra 22, Fullerton 37--Paula Agras finished first in 20:35 for host La Habra (3-0 in league).
Sunny Hills 24, Buena Park 31--Tatiana Berdote finished second for host Sunny Hills (4-1, 2-1) in 20:25. Heather Garritson of Buena Park won in 20:13.
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 16, Rancho Alamitos 47--Erin Nelson finished first in 20:24 at Miles Square Park for Garden Grove (2-0).
Los Amigos 15, La Quinta 50--Carmela Zavala took first place for Los Amigos (1-2) in 22:58 at Mile Square Park.
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 29, Savanna 40--Mariko Tokoyoda finished first in 19:54 for Brea-Olinda (7-1, 3-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 22, Costa Mesa 38--Alice Eklof won for host Costa Mesa (0-3) in 20:11. Araceli Martinez for Estancia (1-2) finished second, 15 seconds behind Eklof.
