GOINGS ON : Busy Calendar Ahead for Arts, Entertainment : Plenty of music and theater and even a wine festival are on tap in Santa Barbara County.

If you’re a lover of the arts, you may just want to check into a Santa Barbara County hotel for the next few days, take off your coat and stay for a while. Because it’s going to be busy.

The arts and entertainment calendar over the next week includes plenty of theater, music, a wine festival and more.

Santa Barbara City College’s Theatre Group will officially raise the curtain on its 1994-1995 season tonight with John Guare’s multi-award-winning play “Six Degrees of Separation.”

The play, being staged at the school’s Garvin Theatre, will run through Oct. 29. Show times are Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. General admission is $15 on Friday and Saturday and $13 on Thursday and Sunday. Call 965-5935. An outdoor feast of wine, food and music will mark the Santa Barbara County Vintners’ Assn.’s fourth annual “A Celebration of Harvest” on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Dunn School in Los Olivos. The county’s 30 wineries will share samplings of their products and local chefs will prepare the edibles. J. T. and the Zydeco Zippers will provide the tunes. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. Call the Vintners’ Assn. at (800) 218-0881.

In conjunction with the celebration, many of the area’s wineries will have open houses, special dinners and other events tonight through Sunday. For full details, contact the Vintners’ Assn. Shuttle service and a designated driver program will be offered.

More than 500 items and services will be up for live and silent bid Saturday at the 15th Annual Benefit Auction and Dinner for the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center. There will be dinners at top local restaurants, antiques, jewelry, art, cruises, hotel stays and plenty more auctioned off. The event will be held at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, 2550 Puesta del Sol Road, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Call 963-6832.

So you thought that when Peter Rabbit folded up his garden and left Santa Barbara’s Museum of Natural History several weeks ago that Beatrix Potter’s work would be forgotten? Not quite.

On Sunday, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art will present British actress Rohan McCullough in her solo show “The Tale of Beatrix Potter,” which tells the story of the life of the English writer. The critically acclaimed National Theatre of the Deaf will perform the vaudevillian French play “An Italian Straw Hat” on Tuesday at UC Santa Barbara’s Campbell Hall.

This farcical look at Paris’ bourgeois set will be performed in spoken English and American Sign Language by a cast of hearing and deaf actors. The 27-year-old, Connecticut-based theater group includes among its credits a Tony Award for theatrical excellence in 1977 and the honor of being the first professional theater company to tour the People’s Republic of China, when it did so back in 1986. Rachel Rivera’s 1992 documentary “Sin City Diary,” a look at the women who work as prostitutes near the United States naval base at Subic Bay in the Philippines, will be screened at noon Tuesday at UC Santa Barbara’s MultiCultural Center. Relative to the U. S. government’s decision to close that base, the film also questions the United States’ responsibility to its former colony. There will be a discussion following the film.
