New Cars and a Movie ‘Star’

Car commercials have been known to show some pretty brutal tests for endurance and handling, but none compare to the video you’ll see next to a certain Ford Explorer at the Long Beach Auto Show.

The video shows clips from the film “Jurassic Park,” and the Explorers in the film are chomped on, flung around and pretty much demolished by unruly Tyrannosauruses.

The “Jurassic Park” display is just one of the attractions at the auto show at Long Beach Convention Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd.

Other highlights include the Team Rollerblade stunt exhibition (Saturday) and, of course, new car models, including the Chrysler Cirrus, Toyota Avalon, Pontiac Sunfire and a Sunfire Speedster concept car.

You’ll also have a chance to dribble and shoot baskets with the Laker Girls--and win Lakers tickets in the bargain.

The show opened Wednesday and runs daily through Sunday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. $6 (look for discounts at Thrifty and Chief Auto Parts); seniors, $4; children 6-12, $3; under 6, free. (310) 499-7692.
