Wakefield Keys Woodbridge’s 24-10 Victory
SANTA ANA — Theo Wakefield caught a touchdown pass, ran for one score and recovered two fumbles to lead Woodbridge to a 24-10 nonleague victory over Century on Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.
Wakefield caught a screen pass from quarterback Brian Millat and broke several tackles, turning a short play into a 30-yard touchdown reception, giving the seventh-ranked Warriors a 17-10 lead with 3 minutes 9 seconds left in the second quarter.
Then, on Woodbridge’s second possession of the second half, Wakefield ran 79 yards on a sweep for his second touchdown and a 24-10 lead with 3:01 left in the third quarter.
Woodbridge’s defense took care of the rest. It sacked Century quarterback Stanley Villanueva six times, and held the Centurions to 26 yards rushing. Justin Dufour had three sacks for Woodbridge.
Villanueva, who entered the week as the third-leading passer in the county, completed 11 of 23 passes for 139 yards.
He scored the Centurions’ only touchdown on a one-yard sneak with 8:56 left in the second quarter, giving Century (2-2) a 10-3 lead.
Woodbridge (4-0) scored on its next drive, going 74 yards in seven plays. Millat hit Nate Perrizo with a short pass at the Century 30-yard line, and Perrizo broke an attempted tackle by Rolando Cortez and turned the play into a 41-yard touchdown to tie the score.
Wakefield led Woodbridge with 92 yards rushing in eight carries. Millat completed eight of 16 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Beau Wallace was Century’s leading rusher with 32 yards in 14 carries.
