Former Employee Was Stealing for Rival, Oracle Says
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — Oracle Corp. said Monday that a former employee now working for a computer software rival was arrested at Oracle headquarters, allegedly trying to smuggle out a disk drive containing a full range of Oracle database products for its Sun Sparc computer workstation.
Wilson Brumiller, an employee of the Gain Technology unit of Emeryville, Calif.-based Sybase Inc., was arrested Sept. 24. Oracle said it awaited a full police report before making an announcement. It said Brumiller’s apartment contained items belonging to Oracle, including disk drives, design documents, marketing plans and competitive analyses.
Police also found the source code for Oracle’s Toolkit, which Oracle clients use to develop computer-aided software applications.
Sybase said Brumiller has worked at Gain Technology for three months and has been on unpaid leave since his arrest. He could not be reached for comment.
