Gene O’Donnell; Actor and Filmmaker
Gene O’Donnell, 81, a veteran radio announcer who later in his career made a series of adventure films including “The Ape” and “The Devil Bat,” which starred Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, respectively. He also was seen as Steve in the Dick Tracy serials. After Army service in World War II he appeared regularly in two early TV series, “Date With Judy” and “Barney Blake Police Reporter.” On Broadway he was seen in “Another Part of the Forest” and “Point of No Return.” His other TV credits included “Gunsmoke,” “Perry Mason,” and “I Love Lucy.” At the Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills on Sunday of cancer.
