El Monte Arroyo Beats Western on Field Goal, 23-20
EL MONTE — Jorge Flores ran for a pair of touchdowns and quarterback Gabriel Agredano added another as El Monte Arroyo scored a 23-20 come-from-behind victory over Western Friday night in a Division VI playoff game.
Art Jimenez’s 24-yard field goal with 8 minutes 54 seconds left in the game broke a 20-20 tie and gave Arroyo (10-1) its victory.
Agredano, who had thrown for more than 1,000 yards, completed 17 of 38 passes for 233 yards.
Arroyo trailed, 20-12, late in the third quarter, but the Knights (10-1) were able to rally after John Claypoole completed a 23-yard pass to Paul Noriega from punt formation. The completion gave Arroyo a first down on the Western 19-yard line. Flores scored the second of his two touchdowns, a two-yarder with 38 seconds left in the quarter. Agredano then tied the score with a two-point conversion run.
Marques Robinson scored twice for Western (8-3).
