Looking for that special little something for the cat who has everything? Or is your idea of a good time wandering around a church gymnasium filled with 150 show cats and their adoring, attentive masters?
Either way, the Beach Cats Cat Club may have just the thing for you Saturday at its Fall Festival Cat Show at Grace Unified Methodist Church in Long Beach. The club, which boasts that half its members hail from Harbor City, Lomita, Torrance, Gardena and San Pedro, says it is expecting a huge crowd for its fall feline spectacular.
“It’s a wonderful show,” said Anita Ballard, Long Beach resident and owner of Delta Lady of Condo Purrs, a Maine Coon cat that won best in the region for purebred, spayed or neutered, last year.
“We mainly promote the cat shows,” she added. “We are affiliated with the American Cat Fancier’s Assn. We promote the spaying and neutering of all household pets and the overall health of kitties.”
According to Ballard, there will be about 150 cats on display, some typical household pets and others professional show circuit cats. The cats will be judged in six rings with six judges. There will be five all-breed rings and one specialty ring, where the judge separates the longhairs and shorthairs, for special recognition.
The cats will compete for ribbons and titles and in each category there will a Top 10. Ballard said eight cat vendors, peddling everything from play toys to food, will be on hand.
“Come do your kitty Christmas shopping, or just to see the cats,” she said.
