High Life: A WEEKLY FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS : Spotlight Moves to Young Music Center Award Nominees
The Music Center recently announced a record number of high school applicants for its fifth annual Spotlight Awards, presented by the Music Center Fraternity of Friends and sponsored by Pacific Telesis Foundation.
More than 100 students from Orange County are among the nearly 600 youths--a 50% increase from last year--from across Southern California to enter the $45,000 performing arts scholarship competition.
Individual auditions will continue through Dec. 18 in the categories of ballet, modern dance, opera, pop vocal, classical and jazz instrumental music. The finals will be April 8 onstage at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Winners in each category will receive $5,000; runners-up will receive $2,500.
