COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Donahue: Players Not to Talk to Reporters

Coach Terry Donahue put a gag order on his players Wednesday, forbidding them from speaking with reporters until after Saturday’s game against USC.

Displeased with Tuesday’s practice, Donahue said he didn’t like the concentration of the team. In addition to preparing for the game, many players are studying for midterms.

Practice remains open, however, and Donahue is still granting interviews.

After missing four of UCLA’s last six games because of a hamstring injury, tailback Kevin Williams rushed for 95 yards in 17 carries in last week’s 9-6 victory at Oregon. Williams, who had 61 yards in nine carries in the fourth quarter, kept a fourth-quarter touchdown drive alive by gaining 25 yards on a third-down draw play from the Bruin 11.

“People thought I was just going to wait for the (NFL) draft and (NFL scouting) combines,” Williams said. “But as soon I got well I was going to play. There was no way I was writing off the season.”
